'Stranger Things' Spinoff Series Review Bombed After Early Access Release

Stranger Things will always be one of the most popular series in the history of Netflix, but the fan reaction to the final season was, well, infamous, to say the least.

Longtime viewers weren't happy about the way the series wrapped up several storylines, including Eleven's fate, Will's coming out scene to his friends, and the final battle with Vecna. It soured what was once one of the most beloved series on TV.

Now Netflix is releasing its first spinoff series since the original show ended on New Year's Eve. Stranger Things: Tales from '85 will tell stories of the characters' lives in Hawkins between seasons 2 and 3 of the original series. The original series creators, the Duffer Brothers, are serving as executive producers. The showrunner is Eric Robles.

The series is animated like a classic Saturday-morning cartoon, and the creators hoped it would be a nostalgic, less intense trip back to the Upside Down. None of the original actors will be returning to this spin-off, with the series instead opting for an entirely new voice cast.

Well, the first impressions of the series aren't very good. The first two episodes of the show were released in early access in select movie theaters over the weekend, and the score on IMDb for the series is currently 4.7/10. Yikes!

Remember, fans are still bitter over the ending of Stranger Things. It probably wasn't a good idea for Netflix to give so little time to forget the disappointment people felt in December before already releasing a spinoff.

Game of Thrones also famously ended on a very poor note. HBO waited several years before releasing the first spinoff in the franchise, House of the Dragon. Perhaps Netflix should have taken this path and let the hate for Stranger Things die down for a little while longer.

This is a very small section of fans that reviewed the show, though. When the series releases all episodes to the general public on April 23, that's when we can get a clearer picture of the quality behind this spinoff.
