Mylik Birdsong, a professional boxer known by the name King Mylik, has died at the age of 31 after a drive-by shooting in south Los Angeles .  According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the violence transpired Sept. 29 around 4:50 p.m. local time, per KTLA . The authorities said Birdsong was standing outside a car with his girlfriend inside when another vehicle approached them. Shots soon rang out on the street.  "A dark-colored SUV drove by westbound on 87 th  [Street] and shot at the victim," an LAPD spokesperson told KTLA . "The victim then ran towards his residence [when] two suspects from the vehicle started chasing him while shooting at him." The boxer suffered seven gunshot wounds to his torso and collapsed to the ground in the driveway. The Simpsons left fans baffled on Sunday night when the legendary sitcom announced that the episode kicking off the 36th season was in fact the series finale . The episode, entitled “Bart’s Birthday,” was billed as “a special Fox presentation” to add a bit of legitimacy to the prank. Hurricane Helene has ravaged parts of the southeastern United States with catastrophic flooding  since making landfall last week. And after the floodwaters breached a homeowner's garage in Florida, a Tesla caught on fire and was seen on video going up in flames. Authorities in Pinellas County released the footage on Facebook over the weekend as a public service announcement to remind displaced residents that electric vehicles can catch fire when they become flooded in saltwater. In the video, smoke can be seen emanating from the underneath of the Tesla, which was sitting in a couple feet of water in the cluttered garage. Suddenly, there is a flash and flames begin emerging from the underside of the vehicle, eventually engulfing it as the garage filled up with smoke. It's unclear what became of the home, or what the extent of the damage was. A Florida sailor and his beloved Golden Retriever were rescued from certain doom after the boat on which they were living sank amidst Hurricane Helene’s squall . Earl Barcome, 64, moved onto the 36-foot sailboat with his 10-year-old companion, Gunn, about a year ago after he ended a 30-year relationship on land, NBC affiliate WBBH reported. It was the “perfect boat” to “start a new chapter,” Barcome's sister, Shirley, said on a GoFundMe page, even if he had to “overload” his credit cards to complete the purchase. It was “the culmination of a lifelong dream, offering him solace and purpose after a difficult chapter in his life,” Shirley explained. As Helene loomed over Florida, Barcome planned to head for a protected section of Sanibel Island. Unfortunately, his boat’s motor failed during the journey. A zookeeper in Nigeria was killed over the weekend after leaving the security locks on the lion closure unsecured, leading to the animal mauling him. The incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, the capital city of the Ogun State in southwest Nigeria, on Saturday evening. Police said that Babaji Daule, 35, who was described as a "trained lion handler," died from fatal injuries to his neck after "carelessly" neglecting to secure the locks and barricade the animal's enclosure before approaching the cage to feed it. Unfortunately, the lion was then shot to "release its grip" on Daule, according to a statement from the presidential library, per Nigeria's Premium Times . The findings are part of a report published this past week from researchers with the University of Cambridge titled " Five Years to Chart a New Future for Aviation ," that outlines four actionable steps that must be completed by 2030 in order to cut emissions and achieve net zero by 2050. The four items include eliminating contrail "clouds" formed by planes, governments and industry collaborating on new policies, the production of sustainable fuel and renewable electricity, and launching new technology programs. Hurricane Helene has dumped historic amounts of water on the southeastern United States, including the usually hurricane-safe Atlanta area. The morning of Sept. 27, after the storm passed through, Fox Weather reporter Bob Van Dillen was on the ground covering the flooding when he suddenly had to jump into life-saving action.  While Van Dillen did a live shot around 7 a.m. local time, a woman can be heard in the background screaming for help from inside her submerged car. Van Dillen noted that he'd called 911 but realized the water levels were rising and he had to act quickly.  "We will get back to you in a little bit; I'm going to go see if I can help this lady out a little bit more, you guys. I'll be back," he told the Fox & Friends hosts in the studio before rushing off-camera to save the woman. More than 50 years after disappearing during the Vietnam War, a Marine Corps captain's remains have been discovered and identified by authorities.  According to a news release from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA),  officials recovered the remains of U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Ronald W. Forrester of Odessa, Texas in December of last year and just confirmed his identity. The 25-year-old pilot went missing while flying over the jungles of northern Vietnam in 1972 and has been missing ever since.  "In the winter of 1972, Forrester was assigned to Marine All-Weather Attack Squadron 533, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On Dec. 27, Forrester was piloting an A-6A Intruder, along with his co-pilot, during a nighttime combat mission over the northern part of the Democratic Republic of (North) Vietnam," the agency said. Dramatic footage released by the U.S. Coast Guard shows a medevac rescue crew descending upon a cruise ship to rescue a sick child . At around 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning, watchstanders at a Coast Guard Sector in Humboldt Bay, CA, received word that an eight-year-old male passenger on a Royal Princess cruise vessel had been diagnosed with appendicitis and needed to be medivaced to a nearby hospital. Roughly an hour later, the men left Humboldt Bay in an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and made way for the ship, which was located about 20 miles off the coast of Eureka, CA. The harrowing footage shows a rescue swimmer rappelling from the helicopter onto the deck of the cruise ship as towering waves crash around them. After the rescuer arrives on the deck, those in the helicopter send down a basket to transport the sick child. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition star Eduardo Xol, who was known for his work as a landscaping designer on the popular ABC reality series, has died a week after reportedly being stabbed. He was 58 years old. TMZ reports that Xol passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19 while being treated at at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he also resided. Police had responded to a call at Xol's apartment days earlier on Sept. 10, and when they arrived found him with "significant injuries." He was transported to a local hospital reportedly in "serious but stable condition," but there is no word on the cause of death. Police have since apprehended a suspect, Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, of Cathedral City, CA, on suspicion of attempted murder. On the heels of a massive Boar’s Head deli meat recall , another major grocery store retailer announced a voluntary recall of its products in nearly 30 states. HP Hood, the parent company of Lactaid, has issued a recall of several of its lactose-free milk products after routine inspections uncovered a possible almond allergen, which isn’t listed on the label. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the Food and Drug Administration said in its guidance . By law, food labels must “identify the food source of all major food allergens used to make the food,” which can include tree nuts like almonds, pecans, and walnuts.
