Video: Bear Cools Off in Backyard Pool During Heat Wave

July 2023 is turning out to be the hottest month ever recorded in human history, and both humans and animals alike are searching for relief from the scorching temperatures. One black bear in California decided to cool off by making himself at home in a backyard swimming pool.  Burbank Police responded to reports of a bear sighting in a local neighborhood on Friday afternoon. Working together with Burbank Animal Shelter and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, officers tracked down the wild animal on the loose. When they arrived, they found the bear relaxing in a small pool behind one of the homes in the area.   Rather than risk capture by authorities, the animal decided he'd had enough. He "made his way over the wall" of the residence and into a tree on the property, according to a police statement .  The city of Burbank has been under a heat advisory in recent days, according to the National Weather Service . Temperatures reached 91 degrees Fahrenheit wh...

TikTok Shows Passengers Trapped on Malfunctioning Carnival Ride

A carnival attraction in New York  malfunctioned  over the weekend, trapping passengers for more than 10 minutes while employees and onlookers watched helplessly. The incident unfolded at New York’s Rye Playland , the country’s first planned amusement park , on a ride called the Music Express. On the park’s website, the Music Express is described as “a fast-paced circular ride traveling a track with numerous peaks and valleys. As the name suggests, loud music plays and lights flash wildly throughout the ride!” A video uploaded to TikTok shows the final minutes of the ordeal. The trapped riders are screaming and waving their hands at a crowd of spectators who are looking on in disbelief. One of the riders can be heard shouting, “Help! Help!” “Hey, they gotta pull the plug!” the cameraman shouts. “There’s no plug?” he asks, before a carnival worker confirms that there’s no plug. It’s then that a group of maintenance men push through the crowd and enter the ride. A...

NFL's Shortest Player Goes Viral in Training Camp Video

As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for their 2023 season, footage of the team's training sessions have cropped up across social media. Now, rookie running back Deuce Vaughn has become a viral sensation. Five-foot-five-inch Vaughn, the shortest player in the NFL since the league began tracking that information in 2003, was seen in a video practicing drills with teammates who appear twice his height. At the time of his draft, Vaughn was called “productive but undersized.” A regional scout for the AFC team at the time described him as "tough and he’s fun to watch but that’s an impossible sell in our building because of the size. I think he makes it in the league, though.” Deuce Vaughn pic.twitter.com/DP8guBcLGj — Jon Machota (@jonmachota) July 27, 2023 Vaughn’s father is Chris Vaughn, assistant director of college scouting for the Cowboys. Although he removed himself from the decision that placed his son on the team, he still got to deliver the good news. In a clip of tha...

Apple Is Cracking Down on How Apps Use and Track Your Data

Apple is about to make it even harder for developers to employ "fingerprinting" to  track user data , starting with the release of iOS 17 , tvOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS Sonoma. Fingerprinting apps essentially use API calls to retrieve characteristics from your smartphone or computer. Using this information, the app can create a unique "fingerprint" that can be used to identify you across other apps or websites. Already, when Apple launched iOS 14.5 in 2021, the company had began requiring apps to request users' permission before tracking them. Now, Apple is taking things a step further by making developers actually explain the need for using Required Reason APIs once the new operating systems roll out. Those who fail to provide an explanation will be rejected starting in spring of 2024. "Some APIs that your app uses to deliver its core functionality have the potential of being misused to access device signals to try to identify the device or user, al...

Here's How Gisele Is Reacting to Tom Brady's New Relationship

For over a decade, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen were one of the world's most recognizable power couples. After they split in late 2022, the two stars wished each other well and have been occupied with their new lives since.  In recent weeks, Brady has been cozying up with his apparent new girlfriend, Irina Shayk—another model whom Gisele has crossed paths with professionally. According to a report from the Daily Mail , the Brazilian supermodel was "upset" at first with the pairing and going through a "revolving door of emotions." "It made things more real," a source close to the matter alleged. "The emotions from that, especially after sharing children , were as emotional as it gets but then she knew she couldn’t hold on to something that was never going to return. She knew this day would come and she honestly would love nothing more than for Tom to be happy." Related: Tom Brady and Giselle Bündchen prove they're not terrible surfer...

How an AirTag in a Teddy Bear Helped Police Track Down a Burglar

Apple AirTags have been a godsend for forgetful people who lose their belongings and cautious travelers who don't want to lose track of their checked luggage. Police in South Carolina just learned a new application for the tiny device after using it to find a serial burglar.  The robber was hitting restaurants all over Horry County . The Sneaky Beagle in Myrtle Beach was broken into four times in total, despite the man being captured on security footage. After the second time, kitchen manager Thomas Erskine and his staff thought of an idea to catch the culprit.  "I think one of the guests that came in had ended up leaving a stuffed animal and we ended up putting an AirTag inside of the stuffed animal," Erskine told WMBF . "We had two safes at that point: the dummy safe and our actual safe." During the fourth burglary at The Sneaky Beagle earlier this month, the thief—later identified as 52-year-old Samuel Smith—took off with the decoy safe instead of the r...

5 Contenders for the Men’s CrossFit Games, Including Defending Champion Justin Medeiros

As the age-old saying goes, heavy is the head that wears the crown. In this case, it’s in reference to Justin Medeiros , the two-time reigning Men’s Individual CrossFit Games champion . In the event Medeiros does secure a third straight title in Madison, WI, on August 1-6, 2023, he will have made history, becoming only the third-ever Individual competitor to triumph on at least three occasions. However, like all great kings, Medeiros is not without his competitive threats. With the 2023 CrossFit Games inching ever closer, here’s a breakdown of Medeiros and four other potential Men’s contenders’ chances . At still just 24 years old, Medeiros would seemingly only be at the beginning of a dominant extended reign atop the CrossFit kingdom, joining the likes of four-time champion (2011-2014) Rich Froning Jr. and five-time Games winner (2016-2020) Mat Fraser . That is, unless any of these athletes have something to say about it. View this post on Instagram ...

Terence Crawford Loses It on Errol Spence Fan Ahead of Fight

Things got heated during Thursday afternoon's final press conference ahead of the  historic boxing match between Terence "Bud" Crawford and Errol Spence Jr., when Crawford got into a shouting match with a Spence supporter sitting in the crowd.  The two undefeated boxers are set to face off for the undisputed welterweight champion title at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, NV on Saturday night, which will be airing live on pay-per-view. Only one boxer will leave the ring with their record intact, as Crawford is 39–0 with 30 wins by KO, whereas Spence is 28–0 with 22 KOs. In other words, it's not difficult to see why tensions are high between Crawford, 35, and Spence, 33. The exchange occurred near the end of the already tense press conference, when Crawford got distracted by the supporter who was talking trash from near the front row, as the moderator was attempting to ask Spence a question about what fans could expect. Although it's unclear what exactly w...
