Too Damn Hard

One stroke at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time. I’m suffocating. Somehow air will not fill my lungs. With each gasping attempt at swallowing oxygen it seems less enters. I have this strap wrapped around, no rather a boulder with its enormous size slowly compressing my chest as it collapses under its unfathomable weight . The disorientation from the sudden onset dizziness could have been from the lack of oxygen or maybe I was unknowingly clocked in the head because remember, there's a big boulder on my chest. Is this a panic attack? They do reside in the family history. Wait, what is that? read more from Breaking Muscle https://ift.tt/315PCuA via IFTTT

Stem Cell Treatment Could Cure Baldness in the Future. Here’s What We Know

Although haircare companies might tell you otherwise, there’s no silver bullet cure for thinning hair . Whether it’s tried-and-true remedies like Rogaine or new startups like Hims, most of these products merely slow hair loss or thicken thinning strands. They can’t actually prevent it, or bring back all your lost hair. But that may soon change. Emerging research shows that stem cells—cells that have the potential to develop into other kinds of cells—could be the key to regrowing real, healthy hair once your mane has thinned out. The Best Salt-Infused Grooming Products for Beachy Hair and Smooth Skin Stem cells hold promise, since they’re how the body produces hair naturally. According to an article by James Hamblin, M.D., a preventive medicine physician and staff writer at The Atlantic , it takes thousands of stem cells, called dermal papillae, in each hair follicle to product a single hair. Over time, these dermal papillae disappear, making the follicle dormant; lots of dormant fo...

It All Depends on Your Goal

It depends. That's the best answer for anyone who wants to know what to do in the gym because fitness has plenty of fads, buzzwords, crazes, and trends that just don't work. As a personal trainer, I often get asked questions regarding all aspects of fitness . Should I do cardio or lift weights first? How long should I do cardio for? Should I increase the weight or do more reps? Often these questions are asked without any background information and the person asking expects me to have one concrete, end-all, be all answer that they will follow for the rest of their lives.   read more from Fitness https://ift.tt/2Yz15oW via IFTTT

Eating Between These Hours Can Help You Lose More Weight

If you’re looking to lose weight, new research shows that timing is everything. That’s because harnessing the power of your circadian rhythm , the 24-hour cycle that controls bodily processes like metabolism , hunger, and drowsiness, can have a big effect on weight loss. A new study published in the journal Obesity investigated how people responded to eating meals earlier in the day. The researchers found that eating during a specific time window (and fasting outside of that time) can help suppress your appetite, burn fat, and ultimately take inches off your waistline. 20 of the Best Superfoods for Men   The study followed 11 participants over four days. A control group followed a normal eating schedule, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner spread out through the morning, afternoon, and evening. The other group followed an early time-restricted feeding (eTRF) diet, which restricts meals to a six-hour window between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Breakfasts lined up between the two groups, but...

Be a Human, Carry a Human

The fireman’s carry is done with a simple technique that we should all master. It’s summer—that magical annual cycle that reminds us that there is more to life than punching data into spreadsheets . Engulfed in nostalgia, you leave work early, take long weekends at the lake, and even pull yourself away from responsibility entirely for a week of hiking and fishing in the mountains with your three best friends.   read more from Breaking Muscle https://ift.tt/2ylSQ0G via IFTTT

The Relationship Between Scars and Mobility

Both new and old scars can affect your movement and mobility in everyday life, during sports, or in workouts. Chances are you probably have a scar somewhere on your body . It’s Not Too Late to Get in Shape in Your 40s

If you were big into sports in your youth and fitness is still a huge part of your life, good on you. However, if you were an indoor kid, or if your athleticism stalled out in college, there’s still time to reap longevity benefits from exercising to get in shape in your 40s . A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that people who take up fitness in their 40s and keep it up into their senior years lower their mortality rate by 35 percent—about on par with lifelong exercisers. 5 Surprisingly Beneficial Post-Workout Junk Foods Late fitness bloomers enjoyed a 40 percent decrease in deaths related to heart disease and a 15 percent decline in cancer-related mortality when compared with nonexercisers. Although researchers are still figuring out why, it may be that increasing exercise as you age stimulates the body’s natural defenses just when you need them the most. If you’re ready to get in shape, ease into it to avoid injury. After all, you’re not a kid anym...

An Exercise In Stress Management

Bodybuilding and Olympic Weightlifting Aren't Mutually Exclusive

Adding bodybuilding work to your weightlifting practice has its benefits, both ways. "I’m chasing performance, not looks," seemed to be the narrative from the Olympic weightlifting community for a while. There appeared to be no room for time spent on focused, strategic muscle building. I was a part of the community. I heard many say it. But I was always confused as to why functional bodybuilding and training for performance in a sport had to be mutually exclusive . It had never been for me, although I must admit, I’ve often mistakenly not kept it as a priority.   read more from Fitness https://ift.tt/2GtQJwb via IFTTT
