Sebastian Maniscalco will wrap up his It Ain't Right residency at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City this weekend. In a conversation with Men's Journal, the 52-year-old comedian spoke about his time in "America's Playground." But he also revealed the Saturday Night Live star that has piqued his interest and earned his respect as a comedian.
"Marcello Hernández," Mansicaclo says when asked about who he's digging right now in the comedy world.
"I think he's really talented—got a future."
Hernández's immigrant background is what speaks to Maniscalco most.
"I grew up in an immigrant family, so the stuff he does kind of reminds me of my childhood," he elaborates.
Much of Maniscalco's comedy ties back to his Italian heritage, especially when it comes to how he was raised. And that's what makes him such a relatable comedian to so many, whether they also grew up in an Italian family or simply had parents or grandparents born in the same era as Maniscalco's.
His favorite bit Hernández does on SNL is the "Immigrant Dad Talk Show."
In the sketch, Hahmed Ahmed Mahmoud (Ramy Youssef) and Joaquin Antonio (Hernández) host a talk show as immigrant fathers. Hernández has also performed alongside Dave Chappelle in the popular SNL skit.
"He's got like a ethnic thing about him that I relate to being Italian," Mansicalco adds.
Tickets are still available for the final leg of Mansicalco’s Atlantic City residency. Catch Hernández on Saturday Night Live and in College Park, Maryland on Oct. 26.
