James Gunn Admits He Knows Who’s ‘Top of the List’ to Play Batman in DCU

James Gunn has finally given fans insight into the future of Batman in the DC Universe. Specifically, the topic of who’ll play the iconic superhero role in his DCU reboot when The Brave and the Bold gets its turn to take center stage. The DC Studios boss admitted he already knows who’s “top of the list” to take on the role of Batman, sparking speculation about which name could become the next Dark Knight.

Although Gunn didn’t drop a specific name, he also added that there’s a “pretty big star” who wants to play Batman. The comments came during a conversation with The Ringer-Verse podcast.

During the conversation with The Ringer-Verse, the topic of Gunn’s post-episode podcast after each Peacemaker episode came up. Host Mallory Rubin cited the many fans who look for any teasers or spoilers about the potential future Batman actor, and Gunn addressed the topic.

“I mean, do I have ideas about actors to play Batman? Absolutely, I do,” Gunn said. “I have guys that I like, I have guys that are at the top of the list for me. Just like I had people who were at the top of the list for Superman...People can guess, and maybe they’ll be right about certain things, I don’t know.”

“I know, like one actor in particular who is a pretty big star that wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I’m not sure that’s the case.”

While the co-CEO of DC Studios wouldn’t give away too much, he did drop the tidbit about one name wanting to take on the future role of the superhero. He was candid about the fact that while he had names in mind for Superman, the eventual actor, David Corenswet, wasn’t one of the initial actors he was thinking of.

While he’s leaving the door open for any and all potential outcomes regarding casting of The Brave and the Bold, it’s apparent that Gunn at least has a starting point for how he wants to approach the Batman reboot.
