One of the most anticipated movies of 2025 has finally dropped its first teaser trailer. Following on the success of the prequel movie Prey, director Dan Trachtenberg's next live-action Predator movie is called Predator: Badlands. No, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not in the trailer, but it seems that his absence will be more than made up for by Elle Fanning.
The new movie is set in the distant future, on some kind of burned-out planet, and features Fanning's character teaming up with a younger Predator named Dex, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. The trailer doesn't show us much of their alliance, but the action looks impressive, immersive, and utterly different from any other film in the franchise.
In the trailer, we see Thia (Fanning) talking to the young Predator, and in some scenes, it appears that she may either be an android or have some kind of cyborg-like powers. It's also clear that this unlikely partnership will feature these characters teaming up against other Predators, and perhaps, different sorts of monsters, too.
To make things even more confusing, it appears that there will be not one, but two versions of Fanning in this movie. According to Variety, Fanning will play "two twin sisters" in the movie. Are both of them robots?
Trachtenberg has been largely credited with bringing life back to the Predator franchise, which started back in 1987. Not only was 2022's Prey a hit, but Trachtenberg is also responsible for an animated Predator anthology film called Killer of Killers, which is set to hit Hulu on June 6.
So, if you can't wait for Elle Fanning in Badlands, you'll have Killer of Killers to scratch your Predator itch until the fall.
Predator: Badlands hits theaters on November 7, 2025.
