There's talk of a new Yellowstone spinoff, this one starring Luke Grimes.
According to Variety, the spinoff would be produced by CBS, which is a change from the original. Grimes would return as his Yellowstone character Kayce Dutton in what is being pitched as a "procedural series."
The Yellowstone franchise has had a lot of offshoots, with two prequel series proving popular.
According to Variety, the "plot details" for the Grimes vehicle are not yet clear, and the formal deal has not been inked yet.
Grimes played the son of Kevin Costner's character in the original Yellowstone series. As fans know, Costner's character was murdered at the end of the series, which would rule him out for a spinoff.
This would be the second spinoff series planned in addition to the prequels 1923 and 1883, which told the stories of the Dutton family ancestors and how they obtained and preserved the family's ranch land in Montana.
Variety previously reported that actors Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who play the characters of Rip and Beth in the franchise, will also be starring in a different spinoff.
The timeline for the new Luke Grimes show is not yet clear. It's also not clear where exactly the show would be based or what role Kayce Dutton's son and wife would have in the new show. The Yellowstone series ended with Kayce and his family crafting a deal with a nearby tribe to relinquish the ranch land with an agreement that they could stay on a piece of it and that the rest could never be developed.
