5 Years After Scottie Pippen Slammed Chicago Bulls Doc, Creator Responds

Six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen made it clear that he did not enjoy The Last Dance documentary about the Michael Jordan-led ‘90s Chicago Bulls as much as most viewers, and now the creator has finally responded to his criticisms.

The Last Dance was released in 2020 during COVID quarantine times, garnering critical and audience praise. The documentary gave an in-depth view of the Chicago Bulls 1990s basketball dynasty.

While Michael Jordan was the team’s absolute superstar, his number two was Scottie Pippen. In his 2021 memoir, Unguarded, the former professional basketball player said the documentary “glorified” Jordan while not giving others on the championship teams their just praise. He also felt the production made him appear selfish.

Last Dance producer Jake Rogal feels Pippen came off just fine in the documentary, and says he “feels bad” hearing Pippen speak negatively of it.

“I actually thought that he came off really well in the doc. His interviews are awesome. He’s like a hero when his back’s hurt and he’s still playing as a decoy,” Rogal told Cinemablend. “He’s a legend of the Bulls. He’s a legend of the sport.”

Rogal went on to say he was taken aback to hear Pippen criticize the movie because he believes the basketball legend came off “favorably.”

“We were just telling people the story, and I thought Scottie was a hero of it,” he said. “I have nothing but respect and admiration for him, and I hope one day he can look back on that and see that he’s a hero of the story.”

The Last Dance can currently be streamed on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
