Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan returned to the location where their incredibly iconic When Harry Met Sally dining scene was filmed.
More than three decades after When Harry Met Sally delivered the fan-favorite and often-quoted scene, the actors were back at Katz’s Deli to stage a similar setup for a Hellmann’s Super Bowl commercial.
The advertisement finds Crystal and Ryan as their titular characters from the movie in the NYC deli, as he tells her, “I can’t believe they let us back in this place.”
The ad is in reference to the movie’s moment where Harry tells Sally he can’t believe any woman he’s slept with ever faked an orgasm. This prompts Sally to make a vocally convincing demonstration of what would work.
“I’ll have what she’s having,” one of the movie’s deli patrons then deadpans.
This time around, the commercial finds Ryan extremely enjoying a turkey sandwich with Hellmann’s mayonnaise and Crystal eats a pastrami sandwich. The big scene-stealer line read goes to a modern-day Hollywood star: Sydney Sweeney.
“There was some talk early on about, ‘Who are we gonna get for the cameo role? Who’s gonna end the spot?’ It’s such an iconic line, and When Harry Met Sally is such an iconic rom-com and am moment for Meg, obviously, that we’re re-creating,” the spot’s director Jake Szymanski told The Hollywood Reporter.
Szymanski said the inclusion of Sweeney was like a “mini passing” of the rom-com torch to Sweeney.

According to Crystal, this was the first time he and Ryan had been offered something like the commercial. He told People how fun the idea was and felt the “approach was right.
Ryan offered up praise for the people at Hellmann’s, who showed respect for the movie and original scene.
“They came to us with just an enormous amount of respect for that, for the source material and for the characters,” she said.
When Harry Met Sally was released in 1989 and directed by Rob Reiner.
