Lactaid Recalls Milk Products in Nearly 30 States

On the heels of a massive Boar’s Head deli meat recall, another major grocery store retailer announced a voluntary recall of its products in nearly 30 states.

HP Hood, the parent company of Lactaid, has issued a recall of several of its lactose-free milk products after routine inspections uncovered a possible almond allergen, which isn’t listed on the label. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the Food and Drug Administration said in its guidance. By law, food labels must “identify the food source of all major food allergens used to make the food,” which can include tree nuts like almonds, pecans, and walnuts.

Five products in particular are being recalled, so check your fridge if you’ve bought 96-ounce Lactaid Whole Milk, 96-ounce Lactaid 2% Milk, 96-ounce Lactaid 1% Milk, 96-ounce Lactaid Fat-Free Milk, and 96-ounce 2% Calcium-Enriched Milk. The contaminated batches have expiration dates ranging from Nov. 22 to Dec. 5, 2024, so check the FDA’s website to see if your milk is affected.

The recalled products were sold in 27 states in total: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

There’s need to worry about losing money on throwing away milk, as consumers who bought any of the affected products can return it to the store where they bought it for a full refund or exchange.
