We're now less than two months out from Deadpool & Wolverine, the upcoming Marvel blockbuster that's already credited with turning around the currently woeful summer box office in advance ticket sales. But if the tongue-in-cheek franchise needed an added promotional boost, the marketing department has evidently taken a page from Dune: Part Two with an equally eyebrow-raising novelty popcorn bucket.
The Dune 2 bucket went viral earlier this year over what were, in retrospect, inevitable comparisons to parts of the human anatomy; or in particular, what moviegoers would want to do to the bucket using parts of their own anatomy. The discourse got so out of hand that Saturday Night Live even parodied the Dune 2 popcorn bucket, and AMC's chief content officer later admitted that it was a misstep.
So, in other words, when the first images of the Deadpool & Wolverine novelty popcorn bucket surfaced online on Thursday, featuring the open-mouthed face of the popular X-Men character, it was about as subtle as a wrecking ball. In one of the images, a stream of butter even drips suggestively down Logan's face.

"I need one of these….. for research purposes," quipped one user, in a similar reaction to the Dune 2 popcorn bucket. "All up in his Wolvussy omg," another user added, while a third chimed in that it's "somehow still milder than the duneussy popcorn bucket."
"Was the butter dripping down his face necessary?" wondered yet another person.
But if there was ever any doubt that the folks behind the Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket were indeed trolling, franchise star Ryan Reynolds also shared a reveal on social media. In the short clip, his character can be seen lovingly stroking the Wolverine bucket before popcorn rains down from above onto its face.
"Years from now they will look back at 2024 as when the War of the Popcorn Buckets began," Reynolds captioned the post.

It's unclear whether Hugh Jackman approved of his character's likeness for the movie tie-in, but we'd have to guess he might have raised an eyebrow.
