Mike Myers Looks Nearly Unrecognizable in Rare Public Appearance

Mike Myers made his first public appearance in more than a year on Saturday sporting quite a different look than he has for most of his career. But for once, it was the passage of time, not an elaborate getup of makeup and prosthetics that caused Myers to look unrecognizable.

The 60-year-old actor and comedian had resurfaced at the 49th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award Award Gala honoring Nicole Kidman. Myers, who hasn't acted in any films with Kidman but did make one very memorable appearance alongside the actress in a 1993 Saturday Night Live sketch, was one of many celebrities who took to the stage to speak.

When walking out on stage, Myers initially disguised himself in a long black cape and ornate mask in a nod to Kidman's 1999 Stanley Kubrick psychological drama, Eyes Wide Shut. Removing the cape and mask, he revealed a silver buzz cut and matching beard, compared to his usual tousled brown hair.

It's been two years since Myers has appeared onscreen in the Netflix series The Pentaverate, which he created and starred in, as well as the 2022 David O. Russell ensemble film, Amsterdam.

"I think she's just one of the most versatile, and—you just admire her and you like her, which is a very rare combination with any performer," Myers told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, when asked what it was about Kidman that makes her so special. "Everything she does I think is so elegant and very first-class and fantastic."

Myers was also asked about rumors that he might one day revive one of his most iconic characters, Austin Powers, for a fourth film in the franchise. It's been over two decades since he last appeared on the big screen as the international man of mystery in 2002's Austin Powers in Goldmember.

However, he played coy. "Again, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project," Myers said with a smirk. Though, when asked if then character still lives in his heart and has more stories to tell. he admitted: "Absolutely."
