Robert De Niro Opens Up About Fathering a Baby at 80

Robert De Niro has done just about everything a major actor can hope for in his life. With a career spanning six decades and some of the most iconic films in history, De Niro has cemented his spot as a Hollywood legend, and he continues to work hard to this day. 

At 80 years old, De Niro isn't slowing down any time soon, even if his family life has gotten a little busier in the past year. In April 2023, he welcomed his seventh child, a daughter named Gia, with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen. The move made him one of the oldest fathers in recorded history, adding to his list of accolades that include Oscars and Golden Globes.

De Niro reflected on becoming a father again at this advanced stage in life in an interview with the American Association of Retired Persons. "It feels great, because everything that I'm consumed with or worried about or this or that just goes away when I look at her," he said honestly before getting choked up. "That in itself is wondrous." 

"She has a very sweet kind of way of looking at you and just taking you in. And my other daughter Helen had that too. They just look at you and take it in," he continued. "I don't know where it's going to go with her later when she gets older. But she's thinking and she's observing everything and watching. It's really interesting."

He might not have the same physical strength of a 40-year-old father, but he's enjoying every minute of it just the same. "I'm an 80-year-old dad, and it's great. And I want to be around for as long as I can to enjoy it [and] enjoy her," he confessed. 

An 80-year-old becoming a new dad would certainly make for an interesting movie plot.
